![]() ![]() The Big Money - This song truly got me into Rush, and brings intense nostalgia and grateful smiles. The increased energy the song gains at the end is triumphant. Pure poetry, and Aimee Mann adds a beautiful ambience. Probably my favourite Rush song lyrically - ‘sprawling on the fringes of the city in geometric order, an insulated border’ ‘any escape might help to smooth the unattractive truth but the suburbs have no charms to soothe restless dreams of youth’ are Shakespearean. Every single thing about this track works. Subdivisions - As an INFJ personality type, this song is my anthem. Geddy’s bass on the third repeat of the gentler part of the song absolutely kills. The juxtaposition between the aggressive and supernaturally electronic bridges is a superb ongoing metaphor for killing the inner demons. The Enemy Within - Lyrics of this song saved my life earlier this year. Vital Signs - Some of my favourite Rush riffs, incredible sound design, fascinating concept/approach to individuality, the glorious rising crescendo and fade out at the end is absolutely triumphant The chorus is outstanding, especially the operatic and intense ambience of the final one, and the tone/texture of the song is sublime. Perhaps their most poetic and epic song.Ħ - Marathon - I absolutely vibe to this song and is a MEGA motivator. The composition is layered and masterful, so so much is going on. Xanadu - I would argue this is potentially their magnum opus but there are just other songs I prefer to it. ![]() Limelight - It’s a classic and everyone knows it is, not much more I can say about that hasn’t been said. Lyrics are fascinating and resonant throughout Perhaps my favourite intro to a Rush song, it so abrasive, cacophonous, distorted and spine chilling. The Weapon - The atmosphere is again a winner for me, perhaps I’m a sucker for the more atmospheric Rush songs. Manhattan Project - The atmosphere is oustanding, it gives the song a nuanced approach in both romanticising, condemning and being in awe at the atom bomb event, and the lyrics are tense, poignant, devaststing and overwhelming. Perhaps slightly controversial as some of their stone cold classics such as ‘Tom Sawyer’ and ‘The Spirit of Radio’ aren’t there but I find them a bit overplayed thanks to their radio wave attention, and there are ultimately some tracks I prefer to them: I’m curious to see what everybody’s top ten Rush songs would be. ![]() No posts offering an item in exchange for money.
